About

Sue Gent portrait

I’m an illustrator and designer based near Bristol, UK.

I combine traditional techniques – such as linocut, screen-printing, pen and ink, and painting – with software, to create bold and colourful artwork.

My illustrations have been published in BBC Countryfile MagazineBBC Wildlife MagazineBBC History MagazineHistory RevealedHomes and AntiquesLiving EarthBoneshakerLost in London and Pretty Nostalgic. I was commissioned recently to provide illustrations for Wildscreen Festival and Avon Wildlife Trust.

I graduated from UWE Bristol with a First Class Honours Degree in Art and Visual Culture. Before turning my focus solely to design and illustration, I produced several short films and music videos for Bolexbrothers and Collision Films, working with Radiohead, The Scissor Sisters, Franz Ferdinand and Elbow, among others. I’m also an experienced magazine designer, having worked as a freelancer in this field for several years.

“Working to a stupidly tight deadline, Sue supplied Boneshaker with a beautiful set of illustrations for a feature about cycling and the mind, bringing our minimal brief to life and thoughtfully exploring the possibilities of the text. We were absolutely delighted with the finished result, which has received praise from all over the world.”
Mike White, Editor, Boneshaker Magazine

“I have worked with Sue on several books now, and she has always come up with fabulous covers – both in terms of her original artwork, and the overall design. Authors, publisher and indeed readers have all been delighted with the end result. I would recommend her work unreservedly.”
